David Perry's Interview
Tuesday, 22 May 2007
Do the members of Anything Box have "day jobs", for the time when they're not working on music?
Claude: Sometimes. Survival is important when things slow down.

Claude, what are your thoughts on God, heaven and hell?
Claude: God is great. Heaven is a lonely place in time. Hell is where God isn't. My concept of "God" is that there is something out there, or in here, or as some sort of field, and I am really in tune with it. I just try not to give it a name. I know it is a force that permeates love.

Does your family(ies) like your music?
Claude: They are very supportive, even in times when they don't understand just what I am trying to do.

Have any of you ever met Micah Vetuski? What's he like?
Claude: LOL. Micah is cool. We've met him.

Being an independent musician, what is the process like for deciding to release an album? Is it purely dictated by inspiration and material, or do you try to keep on some kind of schedule?
Claude: Art cannot be regimented, no matter how hard you try to do it. Albums come as they come, and releases as time and destiny see fit. Although I will say that the computer has greatly reduced this time.

What has been your least favorite touring experience?
Claude: We did a show where we actually didn't wind up performing (no sound system), and signed autographs instead. It was a drag, and we thought the promoters were going to have us killed - Even though it wasn't our fault...

Please list your top 3 favorite pioneering synth artists (either groups or individuals).
Claude: Kraftwerk, New Order, Pink Floyd.

What is your diet like?
Claude: Junk. I am doing better now.

Name both the best and last concerts you have attended. The only stipulation is that the artist cannot be someone you personally know.
Claude: The best so far was... Depeche Mode (Black Celebration). The last was "Blue Man Group"...

Is there a lyric that you now regret writing?
Claude: Regret? Hmm. Regret... Nah. I will however say that there are lyrics which I now do not identify with, but I won't say what songs they are on. It might be someone's fave... And who am I to spoil it?

Are any of the members involved with charities or organizations, and if so which ones?
Claude: My agenda is to actually be active, although in the past this has seemed as though it would be difficult. Now I feel that this year is a good one to start being active. I have given to charities like March of Dimes in the past. I made a postcard to aid NYC during 911. We distributed them everywhere. World Without Love proceeds went to a fund during that time.

What is one instrument you wish you knew how to play?
Claude: Why wish? If I am interested, and it can make music... I will play it.
